Kurinjal Trek Trail Information

The Kurinjal Peak Trek is one of the most scenic and underrated treks in Karnataka, offering a perfect mix of dense forests, river crossings, grasslands, ridge walks, and breathtaking mountain views. Located in the beautiful Western Ghats near Kudremukh, the Kurinjal Trek is ideal for beginners as well as experienced trekkers looking for a peaceful trekking experience away from heavy crowds.

  • The Kurinaj trek starts from the forest gate near Bhagavathi Nature Camp and begins with a wide forest trail covered under thick trees and lush greenery. This section of the Kurinjal Trek feels calm and refreshing, with cool weather, bird sounds, and beautiful natural surroundings throughout the route. After trekking for around 8 to 10 minutes, trekkers reach a charming footbridge over the Bhagavathi River, which is a tributary of the Bhadra River. During the monsoon season, this area becomes extremely beautiful with mist-covered forests and flowing streams, although trekkers should be careful, as the bridge can become slippery.
  • After crossing the Bhagavathi River, the Kurinjal Trek trail gradually becomes denser with narrow forest paths, root-filled sections, and thick greenery. As the trek continues, the dense forest slowly opens into wide grasslands, completely transforming the landscape. This transition from forest to open hills is one of the most beautiful moments of the trek. Trekkers are rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the Kudremukh mountain ranges, rolling valleys, and endless green hills. The trail in this section is moderate and enjoyable, making the Kurinjal Trek suitable even for first-time trekkers.
  • The final stretch of the Kurinjal Peak trek is the most challenging and adventurous part of the journey. The trail becomes steeper with exposed sections facing strong winds and sunlight. Certain rocky areas may require trekkers to use their hands for balance, especially during the monsoon season when the terrain becomes slippery. However, the effort is completely worth it once you reach the summit. From the top of Kurinjal Peak, trekkers can enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views of the Western Ghats, Kudremukh ranges, cloud-covered valleys, rolling grasslands, and endless green mountains. The peaceful atmosphere, cool breeze, and fewer crowds make the summit experience truly unforgettable.
  • Return via the same route. The descent is easy but requires caution during monsoon due to slippery trails.

Best Time to Do Kurinjal Trek

  • Monsoon (June – September): The best time to experience Kudremukh Peak. The hills turn lush green, waterfalls flow beautifully, and clouds cover the trail. However, expect slippery paths and heavy rain.
  • Post-Monsoon & Winter (October–January)  ): Highly recommended for clear views and pleasant weather. The landscape remains green, making it perfect for photography and trekking.
