Unforgettable Kudremukh Trek: 2 Days, 24 Strangers, Endless Memories

On November 18, 2025 by admin

The Journey Begins—Bengaluru to Samse

My journey to Kudremukh began at 9:00 PM from Karachi Bakery, Bengaluru, with 24 complete strangers and a heart full of excitement. I had booked the 2D/1N Kudremukh Trek with goChaarana, and the adventure started even before reaching the mountains.

Once everyone boarded the vehicle, the trek lead initiated a fun ice-breaking session. Introductions, laughter, and conversations slowly turned strangers into familiar faces. The overnight journey to Samse felt lively and warm—setting the perfect tone for the trek ahead.

Arrival at Base Camp & The Thrilling Jeep Ride

Early morning, we reached the Balagal–Kudremukh Base Camp. From there, the real fun began—a jeep ride through rugged forest trails, bouncing like a roller coaster, surrounded by lush greenery and misty hills.

Our homestay was tucked away in the middle of a coffee estate, calm and scenic. I was assigned a two-person sharing tent, which was my first-ever tent stay—an exciting experience in itself.

After freshening up, we enjoyed a delicious local breakfast:

  • Kadabu
  • Chutney
  • Lemon rice
  • Fresh Chikmagalur filter coffee ☕

We also received a packed lunch for the trek ahead.

Trek Briefing & Forest Checkpost

After a detailed briefing from a certified trek instructor at goChaarana, we began our trek around 8:30 AM.

At the forest checkpost, officials inspected our bags and ID cards. Plastic items are strictly prohibited—and thanks to proper guidance from our trek lead, our group was fully compliant.

And with that… Kudremukh Peak, here we come!
Let’s gooooo! 🚀

The Trail – Easy Start, Nature All Around

The first 4 km of the trek felt relatively easy and refreshing:

  • Small flowing streams
  • Dense green trails
  • Sounds of insects and birds
  • Occasional leech bites (part of the forest experience!)

Soon, we caught our first glimpse of Kudremukh Peak, and the excitement doubled.

As we progressed, the ascent became steeper. After multiple breaks and some struggle, we reached Onti Mara (Lonely Tree)—a famous viewpoint. A 30-minute break, countless photos, and stunning views made it totally worth it.

The Final Push to Kudremukh Peak

From Onti Mara, some trekkers started feeling the fatigue, but our trek lead kept motivating us.

Around 12:00 PM, we reached Vate Kadu, a point about 3 km before the summit. After resting and soaking in the panoramic views, we resumed the climb at 12:15 PM.

The ascent was steep and challenging—but the views were unreal. Rolling green hills, clouds drifting below us, and that raw mountain energy made every step worth it.

Finally, at around 2:30 PM, we reached the Kudremukh Peak (1,892 m)! 🎉
After a mouthwatering lunch, we spent time roaming around, clicking photos, and recording videos—the kind that mostly stay in our galleries forever.

The Descent—When the Monsoon Took Over

Just when we thought the hardest part was over, the weather changed suddenly. Heavy rain began pouring down. Though we had raincoats, the intensity caught us off guard.

The descent was

  • Steep
  • Muddy
  • Extremely slippery

The trail wasn’t rocky—just slush. Extra caution was required, and a few trekkers slipped multiple times. I usually enjoy downhill treks and felt confident, but this one tested everyone.

The “Kudremukh – 5 km” signboard felt endless. What took less time while ascending took us nearly 3 hours on the way down.

Darkness, Rain & Finding Strength

As evening approached, it started getting dark, and the rain continued. I walked ahead alone for a while—soaked, muddy, but strangely peaceful. Trekking in the rain has its own magic.

After about 20 minutes, I heard familiar voices—a huge relief. We regrouped and pushed together.

Finally, around 7:00 PM, we reached the forest department office, the starting point of the trek. Completely drenched, exhausted, shoes filled with mud—but smiling.

Reflections—Why Kudremukh Is Special

That 19 km trek in heavy monsoon rain was tough, but absolutely worth it.

I witnessed:

  • The raw beauty of the Western Ghats in monsoon
  • Personal strength beyond limits
  • 24 strangers turning into unforgettable companions

Kudremukh gave me memories that will last a lifetime.

Special Thanks

A heartfelt thank you to Team goChaarana for making the Kudremukh trek safe, well-organized, and truly memorable. From logistics and food to motivation and safety—everything was handled perfectly.

Quick Tips for Future Kudremukh Trekkers

  • Always carry rainwear, regardless of the forecast
  • Wear good-grip trekking shoes (essential during monsoon)
  • Avoid plastic—checks are strict
  • Stay hydrated and pack light
  • Be mentally prepared for leeches—it’s part of the forest
